Elk Brook® Bluestone Wallstone

Also known as: Bluestone Wall Stone, Natural Bluestone Wallstone, Blue Wall Stone

Elk Brook Bluestone Wallstone is natural bluestone split into flat-faced pieces sized for building walls. The blue-gray to gray tones and squared profiles stack into dry-laid or mortared walls, garden borders, and wall caps with the look of native Hudson Valley stonework. It's sold by the ton in random lengths, so each wall comes out with the natural variation that makes bluestone what it is.

Why It Works

Flat faces that stack the way native stone walls were built.

Bluestone splits along flat planes, which is exactly what you want in a wall stone. The faces sit square against each other, so the pieces stack tight and stay put without a lot of shimming or chinking. Dry-laid, that flatness is what holds the wall together; mortared, it gives the mortar a clean bed to grab.

The color is the other half of it. Bluestone runs blue-gray to gray with some earthy variation piece to piece, and that’s the look that reads as Hudson Valley stonework rather than something trucked in from far off. It weathers well and holds its tone outdoors year after year. Whether you’re dry-stacking a garden wall or facing a poured foundation, you get real stone with real depth, not a uniform manufactured face.
