Millings

Millings are recycled asphalt - old pavement that's been ground up and reclaimed, sized down to roughly 1.5" and smaller. The material still carries the residual asphalt binder from its first life, so once it's spread and compacted it locks together and firms up into a hard, low-maintenance surface. It's the practical, lower-cost choice for driveways, access roads, and parking areas across the Hudson Valley where you want something tougher than gravel without paying for fresh hot-mix paving.

Why It Works
Recycled asphalt that hardens as it sets.
Millings work because the old asphalt binder is still in the mix. When you spread the material and run a vibratory roller over it, the angular pieces interlock and that leftover bitumen helps bind them together. On a warm day the sun softens the binder and the surface sets up harder, which is why a millings driveway tightens and firms up over the first weeks instead of staying loose like gravel.
That gives you a surface that holds up under vehicle traffic, sheds less material than loose stone, and needs fewer touch-ups and less regrading season to season. For driveways, lanes, parking areas, and construction entrances, it’s a durable surface at a fraction of what fresh paving costs.
