Crushed Stone

2-4″ Crushed Stone (Track Pad Stone)

Also known as: Construction Entrance Stone, Mud Mat Stone, 2-4" Crushed Stone

2-4" Crushed Stone, also called Track Pad Stone, is a large, angular crushed stone graded to roughly 2" to 4" in size. It's built for stabilized construction entrances - the gravel pad at a job site exit that knocks mud and debris off truck tires before they reach the public road. The big stone size and open structure are what let it shed sediment and stand up to heavy equipment running over it day after day.

Applications

  • Construction Entrance Pads
  • Track-Out & Sediment Control
  • Erosion Control
  • Heavy Fill
  • Rough Drainage

Why It Works

Big, angular stone that knocks the mud off.

A construction entrance has one job: clean the tires before a truck hits the road. The 2-4″ size is what makes that work. As equipment rolls across the pad, the large stones flex and shift under the tires, and that motion breaks the caked mud loose. A smaller stone packs down tight and stops doing that. The big open voids between stones also give the loosened sediment somewhere to go instead of riding back out on the tires.

The angular faces give the stone enough grip to hold position under heavy traffic without turning into a rutted mess. It’s a coarse, open material by design, so the same size that makes it work as a track pad also makes it useful for heavy fill, erosion control, and rough drainage where you want a large stone that water moves straight through. Around the Hudson Valley it’s the standard call for site entrances on commercial and municipal jobs that have to keep mud off the road.
