Sand

C33 Concrete Sand

Also known as: Concrete Sand, Coarse Sand, Bedding Sand, ASTM C33 Sand

C33 Concrete Sand is a washed, coarse sand graded to the C33 fine-aggregate standard used in concrete work. It's the sand that fills the voids between stone in a concrete mix and the sand most contractors bed pavers and pipe in, because the grains are angular enough to lock together and clean enough to drain. When a job calls for concrete sand and not a fine masonry sand, this is the material.

Applications

  • Concrete Mix
  • Paver Bedding & Leveling
  • Pipe Bedding
  • Drainage & Backfill
  • General Masonry Base

Why It Works

Coarse, washed, and built to bed and bind.

C33 Concrete Sand is graded coarser than masonry sand, and that coarseness is the whole point. In a concrete mix, the sand fills the spaces between the larger stone and gives the mix the body and strength it needs. Under pavers or pipe, the same angular grains pack down and hold position instead of shifting under load.

It’s washed, so there are no fines or silt to hold water or muddy a base. Water moves through it, which is why it beds pavers and pipe without trapping moisture underneath. That combination – coarse grain, clean wash, good drainage – is what makes it the standard bedding and mix sand on most Hudson Valley job sites.
