Ice & Road Control
Salt Sand
Also known as: Sand Salt Mix, Winter Sand, Traction Sand
Salt Sand is a blend of sand and rock salt for winter ice and snow control. The sand gives you immediate traction on ice, and the salt lowers the freezing point while keeping the pile loose and spreadable through the cold months. It's the practical choice for driveways, walkways, and roads in a Hudson Valley winter, where you need grip first and some melting along with it.
Applications
- Driveways
- Walkways & Steps
- Parking Lots
- Roads & Access Drives
- Steep & Sloped Surfaces
Why It Works
Traction first, melting second.
The two parts of the mix do two different jobs. The sand grips on ice the moment it goes down, so you get footing and traction even when temperatures drop too low for salt to do much. The salt lowers the freezing point of water on the surface, which gives you some melting when it’s warm enough, and it keeps the sand from freezing into a solid block in the pile so the material stays loose and spreadable all winter.
That combination is why it holds up across the range of conditions a Hudson Valley winter throws at you. On a hard freeze when straight salt slows down, the sand still works. On a milder day, the salt helps clear the surface. You’re not depending on one material to carry the whole job.
