Crushed Stone
3/4″ Crushed Stone
Also known as: #57 Stone, Layman Stone, Trigger Rock
The most versatile stone in the catalog. Angular faces compact into a stable mass, shed water, and hold position. Most driveways, drainage layers, and foundation backfills in the Hudson Valley start with this stone.
Applications
- Driveway base and surface
- Foundation drainage and backfill
- French drains and pipe bedding
- Under-slab base layer
- Road base and access paths
Why It Works
Angular stone that locks in place
Unlike rounded gravel, 3/4″ crushed stone has angular fractured faces. When compacted, those faces interlock and the material binds into a solid mass. It doesn’t migrate under load or shift after freeze-thaw cycles the way rounded stone does.
Water moves through it freely – the 3/4″ size leaves enough void space for drainage without allowing fine material to migrate in and clog. That combination of stability and drainage is why it’s the default choice for driveways, foundations, and drainage trenches across the Hudson Valley.
