Sand
Austin Blue Soft Sand
Also known as: Soft Sand, Mason Sand, Building Sand, Brick Sand
Austin Blue Soft Sand is a fine, soft-textured masonry sand with rounded grains and a blue-gray cast. It's the sand you reach for when you're mixing mortar for brick and block, pointing joints, or parging a wall. The fine, rounded grain is what makes mortar spread smooth and stay workable while you set and adjust units.
Applications
- Brick & Block Mortar
- Pointing & Repointing
- Parging & Rendering
- Stone Masonry
- Smooth Mortar Mixes
Why It Works
Fine and soft, the way mortar wants it.
Soft sand is finer and more rounded than sharp or concrete sand, and that’s exactly why masons want it in mortar. The fine grain mixes into a smooth, buttery mortar that spreads clean off the trowel and holds an even joint. It stays pliable while you work, so you can set a brick, tap it into line, and adjust it before the mix stiffens.
The same fine grain means less shrinkage and cracking as the mortar cures. For brickwork, blockwork, pointing, and parging, that workability and clean finish are the whole point. When the job is about laying units and finishing joints rather than carrying structural load, this is the sand that does it.
